“Beyond Ipanema” screening at SXSW 2010

A Fini favorite from 2009 (not just the film, but the people), “Beyond Ipanema” is screening on March 18 at South by Southwest.

A passion project from Guto Barra & Beco Dranaff, the film had it’s world premiere at the Museum of Modern Art last summer. It was a great projector (rolling off of HDCam), a fantastic crowd, and featured a live drum line of high school students playing Brazilian-style as the credits finished rolling.

The film follows the influence of Brazilian music, starting with Hollywood all the way through contemporary music.

The project was intense. The footage was shot on several different cameras and heavily mixed of HD with SD. It was a complex online, a challenging color grade, and a tedious finish (with several different frame rates throwing Final Cut for a loop). Guto and Beco were fantastically supportive and rolled with the punches.

All of us at Fini and Dubs by Pam offer our hearty congratulations to the entire team for making it into South by Southwest this year!

Enjoy the trailer!
